Russia Issues Warning to Japan Over Ukraine Arms Supplies

(MENAFN) Moscow has issued a stark warning to Tokyo, threatening severe consequences if Japanese authorities move forward with supplying lethal weapons and military hardware to Ukraine, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova declared Wednesday.

Speaking at her weekly briefing, Zakharova said any such move would be treated as a direct act of hostility against Russia.

"All of this further sets back the prospects of a settlement in Ukraine," she said at a weekly briefing.

"In this regard, we would like to warn once again that any attempts by the Japanese leadership to supply lethal weapons and military equipment to the Kiev regime will be regarded by Russia as hostile actions against our country," Zakharova said, adding that such moves will inevitably trigger harsh retaliatory measures.

The warning signals a sharp escalation in Moscow's rhetoric toward Tokyo, as Russia seeks to deter Japan — a close U.S. ally — from deepening its material support for Kyiv amid the grinding conflict in Ukraine.
